Approach.

Everybody has an inner and outer world. Hence, we all have inner work and outer work. My approach is to balance the two.

Inner World & Inner Work.

If you were isolated to a small dark room, would the world you know and the conversations you have with yourself cease to exist? No, because your inner world exists, whether you choose to listen to it or not.

Those who ignore their inner world through a lack of inner work might find they use coping mechanisms to drown out the sound of this world; drinking, drugs, porn, sex, work, distraction, stress, and socialisation, to name a few.

My approach when helping clients address this world is to begin with the most readily available tools to them… language and observation. How do you speak to yourself? What do you say to yourself? What do you see in yourself? When we truly begin sensing the makeup of our inner world then we truly begin to see and hear ourselves clearly.

As part of my approach to addressing inner work, I am influenced by the language and understanding of ‘Parts Work’ from the therapeutic modality, Internal Family Systems (IFS).

A part of doing outer work is finding the balance between control and acceptance. It is this balance that enables us to dialogue with our outer world with less reactivity and compulsion. Something that clients tend to do is propose one ‘thing’ as being the source of all problems. This thing may have brought you here but very rarely, in my experience, is it the source of something but rather the symptom of something else entirely.

Having trained in Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) this modality is a treatment approach that helps you recognize negative or unhelpful thoughts and behaviour patterns. CBC helps you identify and explore the ways your emotions and thoughts can affect your actions. CBC is a process drawing on different methods from recoding and recording your thoughts to decatastrophizing, disputing and challenging cyclical thinking through guided questioning.

With balance in mind, my approach tends to use a hybrid of tools and modalities. One such example is the influence of Solutions-Focussed Coaching in the work I do.
